When you arrive at our JKL headquarters in the morning around 8 am, you'll be greeted by a lively atmosphere and the fresh aroma of brewing coffee made by the one and only Aki Honkala. Some people will be preparing breakfast while others wait for their coffee from the machine and some are preparing their desks for the day.
What is the JKL Office like? How would you describe it?
Our Jyväskylä office is located in Seppälä, which is a few kilometers away from the city center of Jyväskylä. Its location is ideal for anyone coming by bike or walking. The shopping mall next to the office offers great places to go for coffee with colleagues or restaurants for lunches.
The interior of the JKL office is very chill and relaxed like home, our living room which also has desks for colleagues is equipped with two big couches, PS5, and a Neurosonic! Our employees asked for more plants to bring freshness into the office, we just got a few more additions. Also if you are lucky, you might see a dog or two visiting.
We have different spaces to work in. We have 6 rooms which have desks to work in. One of the rooms converts into a mini-meeting room. Some of us have our own desks and there are some extra desks around if someone wants to move to another place. For example, the couch if you want a change of scenery to focus. We value coming in as you are and getting work done in your own way.
What are the perks at the office?
Our food storage is filled with coffee, tea, soft drinks, fruit, and snacks - sometimes even some not-so-healthy snacks like chocolate and cookies. We have a Neurosonic, which is a relaxing lounge chair that transmits very low-frequency vibrations in the body. The technology promotes the body’s natural healing abilities, especially through the quality and power of sleep. It works like a charm to activate or recover for the rest of the day. We like to make time for coffee breaks so we occasionally put reminders on our Jyväskylä Slack channel. During lunch, some of us have our own food from home and since our office is next to a big supermarket some of us go together to the supermarket to get some lunch, it’s become a bit of a habit which we like to do.
Outside the food, we organize after-work events to solidify the company's culture between our people. Sometimes we go to the local gym together, or we go out at Jyväskylä City, we once organized a Taco Tuesday.
What’s the vibe at the office? Who are most-likely to see there?
It’s always great when we have a lot of colleagues around at the office. Mainly Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays there are most people around or when there is food or an event - our colleagues are foodies. Either way, we like coming together and connecting.
You will find Aki Honkala at the office as the first person to arrive in the morning, you will see other members from our Sales team like Venla and Miko at the office greeting with a big smile. The father figure of the JKL Office Pasi is often around sharing wisdom and good conversation starters. Kimmo, our Software Developer enjoys the office with the views from the “developers’ lounge”. If you’re lucky you’ll be greeted by our Chief Happiness Officer Markku too, who of course deserves all the petting in the world. Our Content Writer Aino is around and our CFO Valtteri. The vibe at the office is great, it’s relaxed and everyone is approachable.
What’s everyone's favorite thing about the Jyväskylä HQ?
I asked the team members what are their favorite things at the office, here are a few:
My favorite thing about the office is the people who come there. Every day is different, and I always look forward to taking a coffee break to catch up on how everyone is doing.
Pasi enjoys the first cup of coffee in the morning, which is brewed by Aki Honkala. It is one of the best things to experience when arriving at the office.
Aino loves the Neurosonic’s activations when it's a slow day. They also appreciate the random hurrahs when someone has booked a client or won a deal, as it breaks the silence in the office.
Valtteri’s favorite thing along with the good perks, is the coffee break at 14, it's guaranteed that there is someone having a coffee break too.
Venla enjoys the warm team spirit at the office, especially when there are many people around. You can always rely on Aki’s morning coffee and when Aki is on holiday, the staff becomes quite confused.
Erica enjoys Markku's morning greetings, in which he goes around the office to see who's there and greets them. She also appreciates Pasi's cheerful morning greeting, which is hands down one of the best!
Welcome to Jyväskylä office!
